Maybe Newt Is on to Something with those Ideas about Relaxed Child Labor Laws…

I'd be a better housekeeper if I were this enthusiastic about loading the dishwasher.

  1. I just want to scoop him up and squeeze the stuffings out of him.
Good thing Seb had a vasectomy or else I’d be trying to get pregnant again and I’m too damn old for that crap. 🙂

  2. My last charge’s mother (the girl lived with her father and me) gave her make-up for her birthday. She was seven years old. Kind of put us in a bind, so I used the make-up only at home for dress-up. I applied it professionally and hoped that she’d be influenced by that subliminally when she became old enough to wear make-up. Her dad got her a little ballerina outfit, I had her make herself a “wand” and voila!! She was the cleaning fairy. I have pictures of her being a very melodramatic cleaning fairy and one of her loading the dishwasher with her pink outfit, yellow starred wand, and long glamorous yellow Playtex gloves. That was one put together cleaning fairy.

I do believe in teaching children the skills they’ll need to maintain a household of their own while they’re young. I never use chores as punishment. The younger they start, the easier it is to make a pleasant game of it. I bet this delicious tender baby could fold a washcloth. (Note I said “a” washcloth. When they’re that young, you don’t have to ask if they want to do more or less of anything. )

That is sheer genius… kids naturally tend to seek approval, so they’d be happy to help.
